Pop Rock in Cagayan de Oro - Soft Opening Review

I think it's quite apt for this brand new blog to also feature a brand new restaurant in Cagayan de Oro for its very first blog post.

Pop Rock, a bakery and cafe rolled into one, is now nearing the end of its soft opening. It will have its grand opening on March 8, 2014, and we can't wait to come back and sample their other dishes.

Pop Rock is actually an established joint in Iligan City and is quite popular there. When we were in Pop Rock CDO, we met a few acquaintances who are originally from Iligan, and they raved how good Pop Rock is in Iligan. So we expected the food to be good.

(B) Chicken Piccata

And Pop Rock passed - but not with flying colors. I mean the dishes we ordered tasted good, especially the Chicken Piccata. But I think the price could be a little cheaper. Also, the Beef Stroganoff could be a bit more tender. A positive thing is that the rice serving size was quite generous for us since we're used to limiting our rice intake to half a cup.

We even had leftover beef stroganoff, so we had them pack that up together with our excess rice. Also, I'm quite pleased that their mixed vegetable side dish consisted of corn, carrots and peas - and not the cheaper version that replaces green peas with string beans.

All rice meals came with a big glass of iced tea. Prices ranged from 149 to 179 php. The Chicken Piccata was 149 php, Fish Fillet was 169 php and the Beef Stroganoff was 179 php. The Chocolate Praline Cupcake was worth its cheap 15 php price, though I'm willing to pay more for a more moist version. They also have cakes and other desserts there like leche flan and cookies. We also bought a pack of Pan de Leche from their bakery section for 49 pesos.

We'll definitely come back to taste more of their dishes once they fully open. We hope they would be able to maintain the cleanliness of the place and their level of service.

Pop Rock also gave us a flyer that gives you a 10% discount when presented during your next visit. I'm not sure though if it's only valid during the soft opening period. Better contact them to confirm.

  1. Poprock was (and I believe that it still is today) the chi-chi place when I was still studying in Iligan. I have very good memories there so in a way I'm glad that they already opened in CDO.

My first time here. And I'd like to 'stalk' this blog for both old and new food finds in Cagayan de Oro. ;)
