Reivew of Capricho Art Cafe - Coffee and Native Filipino Desserts

We heard that a new cafe has just opened near Liceo de Cagayan - so off we go in search of it one sunny afternoon. We weren't actually sure of its name nor its location so we just drove around near Liceo until we finally saw a lot of flower wreath stands - a definite sign that a business has just opened. The sign above the door read: Capricho Gallery + Cafe.

So it's an art cafe kind of thing then, cool. Though there was only one table that's actually in the gallery side. We were seated near the counter and saw that the place only had 4 tables in total. It was very new but the white floor was quite dirty actually. The crew there has to clean the floor more frequently since it's white and glossy, or else, this place would look old and dirty really fast.

So on to the food. Their menu had coffees and frappes, teas, pastries, and native Filipino kakanin!
(L) Frozen Throne Choco, (R) Capricho Mocha

Overall, our experience there was quite good. But I'm quite disappointed though that they didn't have non-coffee frappes for people who don't drink coffee. So we asked the friendly waiter if they could make the Frozen Throne Choco (140 php) without coffee - and he said yes though we need to pay the same price as that of the coffee version. The serving size was okay for the price and I liked how it wasn't too sweet.

My parents ordered two Capricho Mochas (85 php each) and they both liked it. It was cool that they actually put different designs on the foam of each cup. But what we really liked here in Capricho was the availability of native kakanin.

(L) Cuchinta, (R) Binggala Cake (cassava)

We were expecting the cuchinta and cassava to be the usual ones we see: formed in small round pieces. We were surprised that they were served in white ceramic cups - definitely a match with their description in the menu as "Classy Kakanin". They were actually quite cheap too. The Cuchinta was only 14 php while the Binggala Cake was 23 php. We also wanted to try the Puto that was available in 3 flavors (Plain, Mango and Chocolate). Sadly, it wasn't available. So that's definitely a reason for us to come back.
